BIO
 

Antonio Gaggiano (born 1999) is an Italian percussionist specializing in the

performance of contemporary music.

During his career he has collaborated with numerous orchestras, including

the Orchestra Sinfonica della Magna Grecia, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the

Neues Orchester Basel, the Basel Collegium Musicum the Teatro San Carlo in

Naples, O.R.T Orchestra della toscana,  Ensemble

Recherche and Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra and more.

He received an Erasmus scholarship, thanks to which he was able to attend

the KASK Conservatory in Ghent for two academic years.

He also participated in a summer specialization course at the Accademia

Chigiana in Siena, under the guidance of Maestro Antonio Caggiano between 2021 and 2024.

He obtained with honors the academic diploma of I and II level in percussion

at the "Conservatory “Umberto Giordano” of Foggia and completed in 2024 a

Master in Music Performance at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel under the

guidance of Prof. Christian Dierstein. He is currently enrolled in the Master in

Music Pedagogy at the same institution.

Antonio has performed in important national and international festivals,

including the ChigianaFestival 2021, the Siluna Fest, the Rodi Summer

Festival, the Festival Voci per Vico, the Musikfestival Bern, the Mixtures

Festival of Barcelona, ​​the Impuls Graz, the Lucerne Festival, Basel Mizmorim

and many others.

On these occasions he has collaborated with internationally renowned

composers, soloists and conductors, including

Salvatore Sciarrino, Marco Momi, Helmut Lachenmann,Lorenzo Pagliei, Ilya

Gringolts, Martha Argerich, Dan Ettinger, Peter Rundel and more.

In the field of composition, he has obtained several awards: the 3rd prize at

the International Composition Competition

“Città di Albenga” with the piano piece Discontinuum (dedicated to György

Ligeti), the 2nd prize at the “WPM Snare Drum and percussion Wettbewerb”

He has also been awarded several times by the Adams Percussion Factory

and, in March 2025, he received the prestigious Fritz Gerber Award conferred

by the Lucerne Festival that will allow him to perform as a soloist and in

various ensemble in the next edition of Lucerne Festival.
